What are consumables emissions?

“Consumables” are all the goods and services we use. As consumers, we’re responsible for the emissions from producing, transporting, retailing, and disposing of all the stuff we pay for, from food and clothing to medical and financial services.

This is the biggest piece of our carbon footprint (about 63% for the average American), but it is often overlooked because many of these emissions take place in faraway factories and businesses. But that’s not to say we don’t control them. We all make buying choices every day, each of which has a distinct carbon consequence, and each of which represents aa new opportunity to reduce your impact.

Tell us about your own consumables emissions, or get and share tips on reducing them.
